Contest Puzzle #1--December 2001 "Solver's Delight"
Instructions: Guess the words
defined by the cryptic clues (words vary in length
from three to eight letters), then enter
across words in the grid one after another in
the same order as their clues, starting in the upper
left corner. Nine of them won't fit unless one of
their letters is removed. Those nine letters, taken
in order, spell a word that describes a successful
puzzle solver. Clues to down words are given
in random order. Solvers must determine where they
belong in the gird. Those that don't end at the
bottom margin continue in the next column to the
right. Answers to all clues include two proper names
and one foreign word. If you are having trouble
printing these puzzles, you can download an Adobe Acrobat version of
the puzzle and grid.
